Relocation progress...

The new building – more details soon...
Well, we've got a building in Marsden, a car park, all the services on and now we're waiting for planning permission for normal retail use before we can go full steam ahead... But what if we don't get it I hear you ask?

Well, it'd be a body blow for sure – particularly since we've had such positive feedback from Kirklees Council's business development department. We aren't going to alter the face of Marsden Village Centre but we can add amenity and expertise to the area – we'd call that a win/win situation for all concerned!

If the worst happens, then we'll be upping our game as regards internet offering although anyone that knows me will appreciate I like the banter and involvement of dealing with friends and customers face to face. However, we can expand our specialist footwear fitting offering too – just means it'll be on an appointment basis which we can't see troubling the majority of our regulars as they generally ring us first anyway to tell us they're coming in...

But let's stay positive! Mountainfeet has a real health care card to play – we've lost count now of the number of people who said we've made a real difference to their walking well being via the education they've received from us. And there's NO CHARGE for this extra service – it's genuine added value when buying outdoor footwear that is rarely offered with such expertise... If Kirklees Council are as progressive and pro-active as I perceive them to be then they'll recognise a good thing for the area when they see one and support our application.

Anyway, we got the keys to our new place a few days ago and I've started stripping out old and ratty fittings which has revealed all sorts of additional 'challenges' for want of a better word! We haven't any spare cash for refitting the place so it's all hands to the pump as we need to get it habitable on a shoestring. Luckily, we have phenomenal friends and offers of assistance have flooded in from all over.

Getting very nostalgic now about the old place – it's going to be incredibly sad pulling the door to for the final time at the end of January... I do feel we've been driven out of our true home in Oldham by diabolically bad implementation of the Metrolink development but we can't let a good business go down the pan because of this. I have to make a plea though – if you've got sympathy for our situation and believe our shop's worth preserving, then please follow us over the hill from Oldham when we open in Marsden. It's loyalty and support that will make all the difference while we get back on our feet again...

I'll keep you posted on progress as it happens. Have a great New Year – hope to see you soon...
